So Far Away

Listening to Dire Straits’ So Far Away helped me realize a dormant passion.

Here I am again in this mean old town
And you’re so far away from me
And where are you when the sun goes down
You’re so far away from me

So far away from me
So far I just cant see
So far away from me
You’re so far away from me

I’m tired of being in love and being all alone
When you’re so far away from me
I’m tired of making out on the telephone
And you’re so far away from me

So far away from me
So far I just cant see
So far away from me
You’re so far away from me

I get so tired when I have to explain
When you’re so far away from me
See you been in the sun and Ive been in the rain
And you’re so far away from me

So far away from me
So far I just cant see
So far away from me
You’re so far away from me

Can’t use Final Cut Pro

I bought my Apple Mac Mini this past Fall primarily to make videos, however last month, I got my hands on Final Cut Pro and installed it.

Problem is that my mac mini was made prior to June 2006, when Apple used a different graphics processor other than Intel chip which is used in newer Mac Minis. Essentially the older graphics cards on Mac Minis can’t keep up with what is needed for Final Cut Pro.

Knowing what I know now, I most likely would have still bought the mac. It’s a bit of a disappointment, but not as much as my ten-year challenge with video using PCs.

LCD Soundsystem

I just started listening to LCD Soundsystem in the last few weeks.

Their latest “album” (or in 21st century translation, “release”) was released in the UK on March 12, 2007 and in the U.S. on March 20, 2007, while their entire album has been available for streaming at LCD Soundsystem’s MySpace page since March 6, 2007.

At 45:33 (time) into the full release is “Someone Great” featuring parts of the 2006 LCD Soundsystem release “45:33″. That time stamped release – which was actually 25 seconds longer than the title suggests – was commissioned exclusively by Nike. It is referenced that the time stamp refers to the duration of Daft Punk’s live album Alive 1997 as it is exactly 45 minutes and 33 seconds long.

The publicity for the release by Nike said it was designed to accompany jogging workouts. James Murphy later said this was a complete lie on his part, that he doesn’t even jog, and that he had simply used the opportunity to make a record like E2-E4 by Manuel Göttsching. The Nike release cover is similar to E2-E4′s cover.

Also interesting, the recent release was dedicated to a New York resident Dr. George Kamen who supposedly pioneered group therapy.

Bait Cars

I came across a chunk of ‘Bait Car’ videos on YouTube, from British Columbia. I wrote a brief article once about ‘Bait Car’ usage, as an appreciation of the idea. These videos are excellent because they show the Canadian element of tolerance on both sides; the cops and the yahoos who steal vehicles.

The videos are released by BaitCar.com and often how the police react is as funny as how the thieves react when both are confronted.

I like this one the best.
