What’s that song?

We’ve all done this. You have this song stuck in your head, but you can’t put a name to it to save your life. Now there’s an interesting solution.

Launched in beta on Friday, Midomi is a website that allows you to hum or sing the song, upload it and it will search and compare your version to its database of 2 million licensed tracks.

The underlying speech and sound recognition technology, dubbed Multimodal Adaptive Recognition System, or MARS, looks at a variety of factors for recognizing samples, including pitch, tempo variation, speech content and location of pauses, said Chief Executive Keyvan Mohajer, who has a Ph.D. in sound and speech recognition from Stanford University.

This might help Timbaland.
